Kenilworth Liberal Democrats launched this web site to the local press at Cafe Clix, Abbey End, Kenilworth today.

The new site, a constituency-wide initiative in conjunction with Liberal Democrats in Rugby, provides a "one stop shop" for users to keep in touch with Liberal Democrat news, policies, campaigns and activities at local, national and European levels.

Standard features of the site include local news stories, daily feeds from the national Liberal Democrat web site, "quotes of the week", local events and activities and local contacts, together with special features such as on-line opinion polls and petitions. Users can download on-line copies of local Liberal Democrat publications such as "Focus" newsletters, and also sign up to receive regular monthly e-mail digests. There are also lots of useful links to other web sites of interest.

Kenilworth vice-chairman John Whitehouse, the joint author of the web site in conjunction with Rugby councillor Chris Holman, said:

"This new web site maintains the long Liberal Democrat tradition of keeping in touch with people all year round, not just at election times, but moves us locally into the 21st Century in terms of our ability to communicate interactively with voters, and to listen to and respond to their views. We aim to keep it lively and interesting, with new things to read every day, and lots of opportunity to participate and make your views known. In particular, in these days of "Big Brother" and "I'm a Celebrity ..." interactive voting, we hope that our on-line polls and petitions will prove very popular."

The web site has been developed and is hosted by Prater Raines Partners, Folkestone, and is in use by a growing number of Liberal Democrat local parties and associations across the country. In particular, it was used by Brent East Liberal Democrats during Sarah Teather's famous by-election victory in September 2003, and is being used to support Simon Hughes' campaign for London mayor in 2004.
