The government is falling well short of its commitment to cut the emission of greenhouse gases. Richard Allanach, the Liberal Democrat's parliamentary spokesman for Rugby & Kenilworth, says this should not surprise anyone who has studied the Labour party in action.
"On green issues this government is all talk and no action" he says. "The government's own top scientific adviser Prof David King says that global warming is a bigger threat than global terrorism and yet in this year's Queen's speech we have no fewer than seven proposed new laws on terrorism and other crime and nothing to combat global warming."
"If we are to achieve serious reductions in the emission of green house gases then we need to cut the amount of carbon dioxide given off by planes and cars. Instead of tackling these issues the government is proposing more airports and fewer rail services."
