Kenilworth Liberal Democrats and guests gathered at The Cottage in Stoneleigh Road on Friday night to say thank you to Cllr. Haydn Thomas (Kenilworth Abbey) following his recent retirement as Chairman of the local party.
New Chairman John Whitehouse introduced the proceedings, followed by Cllr. Margaret Begg (Leamington Milverton) , leader of the Liberal Democrat group on Warwick District Council, who praised Haydn's long record of achievements as town and district councillor, including being Mayor of Kenilworth in 1995 and Chair of Warwick District Council in 2002/3.
Cllr. Pat Ryan (Kenilworth Abbey), leader of the Lib Dem group on Kenilworth Town Council, presented Haydn with a glass tankard inscribed with the town coat of arms and an expression of thanks from his colleagues.
Haydn looked back over his 40 years of involvement with the local party. He said:
"We built the local party up from nothing in the 1960's on the basis of hard work and involvement in the local community. It's the same recipe for success today."
