Keep Our Children Safe

Cllr. Dave Shilton near busy crossing for school children

Dave Shilton says we need to be concerned about our children's safety crossing this busy road

Cllr. Dave Shilton (Lib Dem, Kenilworth Park Hill) has got the agreement of the County Council to conduct a full survey of the need for a pedestrian crossing at the busy Windy Arbour & Leyes Lane crossroads, as part of the 'Safe Routes To School' initiative.

Numerous attempts to find permanent crossing patrol staff have failed, and the police have been able to offer only temporary cover at certain times. Hundreds of schoolchildren cross these busy roads every day, from Thorns, Park Hill and Kenilworth Schools.

Dave said:

" The area is crying out for a proper crossing to help keep our children safe, but there will be full consultation with local residents to make sure that there is minimum disturbance caused.

In particular, as at Dalehouse Lane, any audible crossing signal should operate in daylight hours only."
