Richard Allanach discusses local issues with Kenilworth community police sergeant
Welcoming today's news from the Liberal Democrats on extra police numbers for Britain, Richard Allanach said:
"The police shortage is a concern right across Warwickshire. One person I met in Ryton-on-Dunsmore said he was as likely to see a "herd of giraffes" as he was to see a policeman in his village.
Police numbers started to fall when the current Tory leader was Home Secretary, and reached an all time low of 899 in the year 2000 under Labour. Our costed plans for Britain yield an extra 10,000 police. The Tories pretend you can have tax cuts with one hand and raise police numbers with the other.
We will ensure that the extra police we fund are put to good use. Excessive rules cut into valuable policing time and police on the beat lack proper IT backup. Fewer rules and more kit will enable our expanded police force to spend more time catching criminals."
