Does Rugby Post Office Have A Future?

May 9, 2005 3:02 PM

A meeting to discuss the future of Rugby's crown post office will be held at the Masonic Hall, Rugby at 7.00pm on Wednesday 18th May 2005.

Peter Wakefield who is Postwatch's representative for the CV postcode area has arranged the meeting.

Cllr Glenda Allanach (Paddox Ward) has welcomed the meeting. "As a major town Rugby should be entitled to a crown post office" she said. "I hope that many people will turn up and have their say. We have recently lost three sub-post offices from Rugby including one in my own ward. We do not want to lose our crown post office as well."

Representatives of all the political parties represented on Rugby Borough Council are being invited to the meeting along with independent members of the Council. The Post Office is also being invited.

Cllr Allanach added "When the sub-postoffices were closed the Post Office did not want to hold a public meeting. After we had gathered many signatures on our petition against their closure and raised a right royal fuss they did agree to meet us. This time there will be an opportunity for a proper debate."
