Cllr. Jerry Roodhouse
Liberal Democrat councillor Jerry Roodhouse, who chairs the Health Scrutiny Committee of Warwickshire County Council, is calling on the Strategic Health Authority to do more about informing the public about the potential changes to health care provision in Warwickshire.
These include:
Running alongside is the discussion taking place to change the ambulance service and merge it into a West Midlands service.
Cllr Jerry Roodhouse stated, " We have had an initial look at these proposal at the Health scrutiny committee and have already asked that a letter be sent to the Department of Health from all the Leaders of Warwickshire County Council calling for a broader consultation and a cost benefit analysis before progressing towards merging the ambulance service."
Cllr Roodhouse is also calling on local people and their communities to support the retention of the Coventry and Warwickshire ambulance service which is a "high performing and high quality service".
He said: "We are having talk with health officials as part of a pre-consultation exercise. My problem with this is that we need to be informing communities about these discussions early and allowing time for an informed debate. Instead we seem to be rushed by the Department of Health and the strategic authority".
"The Strategic Health Authority are rushing at this to fast, taking no account of local communities and the way local stakeholders work, Public consultation is planned but no date given as the Department of Health has to give the go ahead. Changes are taking place across the whole of the West Midlands. Some of the changes have been reported recently, especially around the Black Country."
Cllr Jerry Roodhouse is asking that people contact and write to the West Midlands South Strategic Health Authority, Osprey House, Albert St, Redditch, B97 4DE
