Cllr. John Whitehouse (Liberal Democrat, Kenilworth Abbey) has led opposition at Warwickshire County Council to any idea of routing "Sprint" rapid transit buses from Warwick University to Kenilworth across green belt land.
The Warwick Area Committee voted unanimously to support his proposal that the green belt route option is not pursued, but that work continues on how this exciting new public transport facility might be routed to Kenilworth and potentially on to Leamington.
John said:
"The threat to the green belt has clouded a lot of people's thinking. Now that the green belt is safe, we need to look hard at the potential benefits. A lot of Kenilworth people work at the university, and car journeys and parking can be a nightmare. Also we want to attract visitors to the town, for tourism and shopping. Good public transport links are vital for our town's future."
