Rugby Borough Council is advising residents that proposals are out which could see the
doubling of the town of Rugby by 2021.
The West Midlands Regional Assembly are currently consulting on proposals for the
future development of the West Midlands Region. The Borough Council will need to respond
to this document to ensure that the Borough's views are represented before the final decisions
are made. The Council have organised a public meeting which is to be held on 1st February
in the Benn Hall beginning at 7.30pm.
While nothing is finalised at this stage it does seem that Rugby will have to continue to grow substantially under all of the three options that have been put forward but the third growth option would mean that the town would have to roughly double in size.
In addition to the Borough Council's response to these proposals, the West Midlands
Regional Assembly will be welcoming comments from other local organisations and
members of the public. Further information can be found at www.wmra.gov.uk
To help people understand what this is all about the Council have produced a
summary of the proposals that most directly affect Rugby and this is available at
www.rugby.gov.uk under what's new.
