Liberal Democrats in Rugby have Selected Jerry Roodhouse as their choice for Prospective Parliamentary candidate

January 8, 2008 9:24 PM

Jerry Roodhouse - a Campaigner - a WorkerIn his speech made to local members and activists Jerry Roodhouse made the following statement.

Jerry says

"My Pledge to the people of Rugby & Bulkington is to work hard to ensure that the best interests of this constituency are voiced and heard and that this area is represented to the best of my ability. There is a need to work together, across political divides, if we are to resolve such issues as St Cross and local health services.

The recent ya boo politics being played by both Conservative & Labour must end If we are to protect and enhance our local health services.

It was either the dog collar or a rosette; in the end I chose the Liberal Democrats. Over the years I have had to keep fighting, voicing peoples' concerns, representing the area at all levels, overcoming such difficulties as dyslexia,

why!?

Because to me, and the Liberal Democrats in Rugby, people matter and I am passionate about wanting to see,

• A fairer voting system so people know that their vote does count, we need to stop running the country on a few thousand voters in target seats.

• A fairer society, in which we protect our communities from crime and a society where we enable people to have the opportunities that they need to develop by unlocking them as individuals

• Dignity in care and a healthy society, I am committed to campaigning for greater dignity to those that we care for especially the elderly and most vulnerable.

• Society tackle poverty and climate change. We are an interconnected world. It is not right that the richest countries are not fully supporting and helping to eradicate poverty and climate change. We need to take tough decisions if we are to hand over the planet in any sort of fit state to future generations.

• A safer world. I have a long held belief that we need to rid the world of weapons of mass destruction, and that we need to work harder at eliminating terrorism. As nation states we need to come together and find solutions.

These are the touchstones that I use and if you are to vote for me or campaign with me you need to know where I stand as your future Member of Parliament."
