Rugby Tories Allow Empty Homes To Creep Back3.47.19pm GMT Tue 2nd Nov 2004 Local Liberal Democrats have slammed Rugby's Tory controlled council for their indifference to the plight of the borough's homeless. "There are over one thousand homeless families on the borough's waiting list and yet the new all Tory council cabinet is allowing some of its own houses to stand empty" said Rugby's parliamentary spokesperson, Richard Allanach. "Elderly residents in Bilton have told me that a house in their court has lain empty for over five months. This is an appalling waste. Rugby used to have one of the best records of re-letting empty property of any council in England, but under the new 'management' things have begun to go downhill" he added.
