Council Could Do Better!1.01.00am GMT Sun 10th Jan 2010
Jerry Roodhouse, The PPC for Rugby & Bulkington, is calling for action! The cold weather has left people isolated in their estates and pavements dangerous. To say that this is the worst winter for 30 years is not good enough. Jerry said, "We need to plan ahead. I chaired and presented a report back in the summer of 2009 on winter deaths and it made the point about planning and getting ready. Bureaucrats seem to have got in the way and we now have local councils fighting each other which has prevented some of the actions that should have taken place from doing so. Local Councils are blaming the Government and the Government blaming Local councils." Liberal Democrats will be perusing both Rugby & Warwickshire saying we should have been better prepared, local councillors were not kept up to speed till it was too late, no local councillor was even given a hot line. Jerry Roodhouse said "It has made me extremely angry that the both Rugby Borough & Warwickshire County Council did not communicate effectively and also put into action a plan that can help local people, why could we not have salt boxes strategically placed on estates as the weather got worse, I witnessed a double decker bus sliding sidewards's down Kingsley Avenue, the answer to this was a ref number and 'we will try to grit it' from Warwickshire County Council ....... this is clearly not good enough"
