HoultonA major new road linking the Mast Site development at Houlton in Hillmorton to the rest of Rugby will begin at the end of July and take 18 months to complete.

Councillor Tim Douglas who represents Paddox Ward attended a drop-in public information event hosted by Houlton developer Urban&Civic at the Townsend Memorial Hall in Clifton on Wednesday 5 July.

The new 1.5 mile road will cross the canal over a new bridge and then run parallel to the canal, cross Hillmorton Lane and on to the edge of the Houlton site.

Work will firstly begin at the Hillmorton Lane junction, and then shortly after at the Butlers Leap junction before connecting up over the next 18 months.

The contractor carrying out the construction of Houlton link road is Galliford Try who has said that no construction traffic will pass through the village of Clifton or Hillmorton locks and hours of work will be Monday to Friday 7:30am - 5:30pm; Saturday 7:30am - 2pm; Sunday and out of hours work by agreement.

Further information about the link road and Houlton can be found here: www.houltonrugby.co.uk

Commenting after the drop-in event, Councillor Tim Douglas said:

"Events like these are important and I thank Urban & Civic and the Galliford Try for providing information to the public. This is major project that will affect all of Rugby and it's good that the developers have seen sense and decided to put the road in early. It's also positive that the new road will have a cycle path and bus lane along part of the link. As Rugby continues to grow it's vital that developers continue to engage with the local community to ensure that decisions are made in the interests of local residents and we all benefit."
