Become an Active, Caring and Effective Councillor in 2019

Earlier this year, the Liberal Democrats enjoyed our best council election results in 15 years.

We snatched control of councils like South Cambridgeshire, Kingston-upon-Thames and Richmond upon Thames from the Conservatives. And in cities like Hull, Sunderland and Liverpool, we gained ground against complacent Labour councils who've taken their residents for granted. We also won in Rugby with Councillors in Rokeby and Overslade, Paddox and Eastlands.

Next year over 9,000 council seats and the control of councils around the country will be in the balance. It's a huge chance to build on our successes and make more headlines for the Liberal Democrats.

Being a Councillor can make a real difference for the communities we represent. Liberal Democrat Councillors in Rugby are Active, Caring and Effective.

In Rugby throughout 2018 some of the things our local Councillors have done include:

  • Motions to Council on regenerating the old Cattle Market site and reducing plastic waste.
  • Prioritised play areas, recycling and upgrades to changing rooms in the Budget.
  • Many questions were raised at Full Council on the library cafĂ©, the Royal British Legion's Count Them In campaign, Cyber Security, direct debit green bin charge, upgrading changing rooms and changes to local Police forces, landlords and HMOs.
  • Summer surveying took place in Paddox, Eastlands, Rokeby & Overslade wards.
  • Councillors and campaigners were involved in the Local Plan Pubic Hearing process.

We want to see more Liberal Democrat Councillors elected in May 2019 - and this is how you can help make it happen:

  1. Volunteer some of your time to knock on some doors, deliver some leaflets or contribute in a myriad of other ways to help the party win.
  1. Stand for election. Councillors have the chance to make a real difference every day for people in their community.
  1. Donate to the local party. The Liberal Democrats rely on small donations from individuals like you. We've never had the big business or trade union cash the other parties can count on, especially at a local level https://rugbylibdems.org.uk/en/donate
