Cllr Tim Douglas asks why library and museum café was left empty
At a Full meeting of Rugby Borough Council on Tuesday 27 February 2018, Councillor Tim Douglas (Paddox Ward), submitted a question that highlighted the concerns of residents and asked for an update on the status of the empty coffee shop at the entrance to the library, art gallery and museum, and Hall of Fame.
The Leader of the Council responded by saying that the Council has undertaken a formal procurement process to find a new operator for the café. The response added that the period for submission of tenders closed on 23 February, the contract will be awarded by 30 March and formally commence on 1 April.
Councillor Tim Douglas then asked the Leader of the Council what he thinks we can learn from this process to ensure that this doesn't happen again and our world class Hall of Fame and fantastic art gallery, museum and library do not have a café left empty as we welcome visitors to the town.
The Leader of the Council responded saying the decision was down to European procurement rules.
Commenting, Councillor Tim Douglas, said:
"The café has been empty for months and has not been welcoming for residents and visitors. The Leader of the Council must look at why this happened to ensure it doesn't happen again. The café is located at an important area for the town centre and its facilities must reflect endeavours to bring more people to the Hall of Fame and local economy."
