Council agrees to consult on Shakespeare Gardens

Ward councillors and Rugby Borough Council officers have agreed the following statement about Shakespeare Gardens,

"During the summer months, officers and Councillors received numerous comments, complaints and complements relating to the new grass cutting regime at Shakespeare Gardens.

As a result of this, local ward Councillors, the Portfolio Holder and officers recently met to discuss future aspirations for the site. Issues discussed included the visual amenity, dog fouling, recreation & play, access & egress, resident involvement, wildlife and biodiversity.

From the meeting, it was agreed that a landscape architect would produce different visions, for the future of Shakespeare Gardens. Once this has been done, Rugby Borough Council, will hire a local venue to hold an exhibition. Residents will then be consulted on the plans and be able to make comment.

As part of this process the council will engage with The Dogs Trust, to help with the issue of dogs defecating on the open space.

It was also agreed that the Council would put forward plans, to register Shakespeare Gardens, with Fields in Trust. This will protect the long term future of Shakespeare Gardens, by ensuring the green space will not be built on."
