Glenda Allanach to stand in by-election
Rugby Liberal Democrats select Glenda Allanach as their candidate for the Rokeby & Overslade Ward by-election.
Rugby Liberal Democrats have selected Glenda Allanach to be their candidate for the Rokeby & Overslade Ward by-election which is expected to take place on 22 August 2019.
Glenda Allanach lives in the ward and is an experienced former councillor. From 2000-2005 she represented Paddox Ward on Rugby Borough Council during which time she stood for re-election twice and increased her share of the vote on each occasion.
Glenda came to live in Rugby in 1993 when she started working at the Hospital of St Cross. She later specialised in mental health and ended her career as lead practitioner for mental health for the county council. Many of the county's mental health workers have been trained or mentored by Glenda.
After retirement Glenda's three main interests were birdwatching, sewing and helping care for her two youngest grandchildren. She has also supported her local councillors in their campaigns.
Commenting, Glenda Allanach, said: "The amount of green space in our ward has come under attack from both Warwickshire County Council and national government. We only have one third the amount of land for children's play the borough council believes we should have. To make matters worse the Council has broken its own rules and taken areas out of use without consulting local residents. If I am elected, I will fight to protect what is left of our open spaces".
Rokeby & Overslade Councillor Bill Lewis said: "Our ward faces great pressure from the Rugby Local Plan. I am glad we have found a local resident who deeply cares about these issues to fight the by-election".
Rokeby & Overslade Councillor Carie-Anne Dumbleton said: "Glenda has been a great help to me with some of our trickier pieces of casework. It would be brilliant to have her on the Council".
Rugby Liberal Democrat Group Leader Councillor Jerry Roodhouse said: "Glenda was a hard-working ward councillor. It would be fantastic to have her back on the Council helping the residents of her ward".
