Hundreds of thousands rally in London for Remain

"Stop playing with my future" and "we were lied to" were just two of the placards that were seen by our roving members from Rugby Lib Dems as they joined the rally through London last Saturday to demand a new Brexit referendum. Well, to be clear, neither of them actually marched. Rugby Lib Dems member and campaigner Laura started with the march, but the centre of London was brought almost to a halt by the 700,000 people who joined the march.

Laura spent almost an hour trying to get off the blocks at Hyde Park - time not wasted though as she found Dominic Grieve MP to talk to. "The march was uplifting, positive and peaceful" she said when she returned, still full of energy and excitement for future possibilities.

Cllr Marion Nash was unable, due to her disability, to join the march. However, to ensure she was counted among the numbers, she made her way straight to Westminster Green and, as a consequence, was able to listen to all of the speakers. "Vince Cable gave a clear message - he believes that British people have now woken up to the potential disaster that Brexit will bring. Both Sadiq Khan [Mayor of London], gave a really moving speech to galvanise action against the potential havoc to be wreaked".

Marion and Laura were pleased to meet so many Lib Dem supporters from across the nation (Sheffield, Warwickshire, Perth and Devon), who were coached into London in the early morning and were still waving the flag (or, placards, to be more precise) at the end of the day - even on the underground, in the case of Sheffield!

Whether you were on the march or not, you can contact your local MP, Mark Pawsey and tell him to support your wish that there is a referendum. The more of the electorate that write, the more leverage there will be for change: mark.pawsey.mp@parliament.uk
