Lib Dems call for action on Community Triggers
At a meeting of the full Rugby Borough Council on Thursday 14 November 2019, Councillor Jerry Roodhouse (Paddox) put forward a motion urging the Council to raise awareness of Community Triggers in order to better tackle anti-social behaviour.
Community Trigger is the name generally applied to the Response to Complaints section of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014. It enables victims to require agencies to carry out a review of their response to the anti-social behaviour they reported where they feel they did not get a satisfactory response.
Councillor Roodhouse believes that the Council must actively raise public awareness of Community Triggers and increase its work with partners to facilitate their use. Details should be positioned more prominently on the Council's website as well as regularly promoting them through social media. Information should also be produced for Councillors to hand out and work within and with communities.
Commenting, Councillor Jerry Roodhouse, said:
"Anti-social behaviour is happening in our communities and we need a starting point to help Councillors be community leaders and ensure they have the right information to talk to their communities including organisations and individuals within it. Hopefully this can act as a catalyst for the Council to become more effective in tackling anti-social behaviour and work with law enforcement agencies whose resources are stretched."
The motion was passed by Rugby Borough Council.
