Warwickshire County Council must support bus services
Councillor Jerry Roodhouse has called on the leadership at Warwickshire County Council to use the underspend on concessionary fares to help support the massive cuts to local bus services by Stagecoach.
In November, it was reported that Stagecoach is reviewing its services which could mean some bus services are cut in half and others cut completely.
Councillor Roodhouse has contacted the Leader of Warwickshire County Council and the Portfolio Holder for Transport and the Environment to outline his concerns and the need for action.
The basic statutory concession in England provides for free bus travel for older and disabled people during off-peak times.
Commenting, Councillor Jerry Roodhouse, said:
"It is clear Stagecoach are pulling out and leaving some communities isolated and increasing social isolation for those that depend on local bus service. It can only be right that the underspend on concessionary fares should be used to help and support local communities."
