Campaign grows against Conservative cuts to green bin services writes Cllr Tim Douglas

Rugby Liberal Democrats Councillor for Paddox Ward, Tim Douglas has written to the Rugby Advertiser about the growing campaign against Conservative-led Rugby Borough Council's decision to stop green bin collections for three months from December until March next year.

Dear Editor,

I'm pleased that Labour in Rugby have decided to come on board and campaign with Rugby Liberal Democrats against the Conservatives decision to stop green bin collections from December until March 2017. The Conservatives are now consulting on whether to charge residents to reinstate the service, which rightly led to an outcry and launch of a petition in last week's Advertiser. Both Labour and the Independent group of Councillors supported our motion to rethink the decision. It has long been our view that we need more joined up thinking and better decision making at Rugby Borough Council to ensure residents get value for money. It is pleasing that others are now also putting pressure on those running Rugby Council to make better decisions and look at offering residents alternatives before cutting local services that they use and need.

Yours sincerely,

Tim Douglas
