Chaos over recycling system in Rugby to continue in 2017

The chaos over the recycling system in Rugby seems set to continue into 2017 after Warwickshire County Council have put together a "Slim Your Bin" campaign helping residents to waste less and recycle more, with no involvement from Rugby Borough Council.

The campaign is free to join and anyone from the Borough of North Warwickshire, the Borough of Nuneaton and Bedworth, the District of Stratford-on-Avon and the District of Warwick can sign up.

When residents sign up, they will receive a four week training plan to help them Slim Your Bin. Each week emails will be sent on a new bin slimming theme: from shifting everything you can from your rubbish bin to recycling bin; getting the right thing in the right bin; cutting down on food waste and minimising waste in general.

Additionally, through the Slim Your Bin campaign residents will earn points for the bin slimming activities they take part in. The Liberal Democrats in Rugby are disappointed that the Rugby Borough Council are not involved in this or promoting it locally.

Community prizes

The campaign will give £650 to a charity or community project and residents can vote for their favourite from a shortlist. The community with the most points after 6 months will win the prize money for their favourite charity.

Every month the campaign will also be giving out £20 vouchers to the individual dieters who earn the most points.
