Community Clean-up for Conservation
Liberal Democrat Councillors and community volunteers have cleaned up a local 'grot spot' on Trevor White Drive at the rear of the new leisure centre.
This follows complaints from residents that the area was strewn with litter and looked neglected. The clean-up is Stage One of an environmental transformation and enhancement project to change Trevor White Drive from an eyesore into a bee, butterfly and moth conservation area.
The project will improve significantly the biodiversity of the area and will help meet one of the planning conditions for the new Queen's Diamond Jubilee Centre.
Stage Two will see pernicious and dominant weeds mown back to create more open space, allowing for the planting of nectar bearing flowers and shrubs as a food stock for threatened and increasingly rare species of insects. Cllr. Neil Sandison (Eastland's Ward) said,

Cllr. Jerry Roodhouse and Cllr. Richard Dodd (Eastland's and Hillmorton County Councillors) both said, "This is a brilliant idea, to upgrade the tired and neglected area into a pleasant walk for residents on Southfield's Estate to the new leisure centre."
Bill Lewis and Dave Merritt, Community Clean-up Volunteers, stated, "The nice thing about this project is that the residents and the local wildlife will benefit from the improvements."
