The community composting event held by Rugby Liberal Democrats on Saturday 11 March 2017 with Master Composters John and Sandy Young at the GEC recreation ground changing rooms on Hillmorton Road was a great success, with many residents attending to find out about how they can waste less food and purchasing reduced price home composters.

The charity Love Food Hate Waste (www.lovefoodhatewaste.com) also attended the event to raise awareness of the need to reduce food waste and help people take action.

Commenting, Councillor Jerry Roodhouse, said:

"The response from residents was great with many purchasing composters and learning how to get started with home composting.

"The decision by the Conservatives to charge residents £40 for a green bin means that we have to find alternatives and support people to save money whilst helping the local environment.

"Our thanks go to John and Sandy Young for all their hard work. The event was a great success and we hope to hold another one in the Autumn."
