Could you be Rugby’s next MP?

24 Dec 2014

The boundary commissioners have divided Rugby into two constituencies.

Richard Dickson has been selected as the prospective parliamentary candidate for the southern portion of Rugby and has been campaigning on local issues.

Now the Liberal Democrats are selecting a candidate for the northern portion of Rugby.

Rugby's next MP will help their constituents with their individual problems, promote our town and its villages in Parliament and help make the tough decisions to continue to reduce the government's deficit in a fair way. Rugby Liberal Democrats are looking for someone to do all that with a Liberal flair.

The successful candidate will be a team player, with a strong campaigning record, the ability to speak in public and represent the Liberal Democrat team to the media. They should have the ability to explain the value of Liberal Democracy to Rugby's electorate.

Rugby Liberal Democrats believe there will be four key local issues in the next general election:

- Making sure that the citizens of Rugby have access to good health care and improving the services available at the hospital of St Cross;

- Dealing with the looming school place shortage;

- Revitalising Rugby's town centre; and

- Protecting our green fields from unnecessary development by property speculators.

In 2014 the Rugby Liberal Democrat campaign team took one borough council seat from the tories in May and pushed Labour into fourth place in a recent by-election.

The closing date for applications is 17.00hrs on Friday 9 January 2015.

Full details are available in the members section of the national party website.
