Developer says “We don’t care about Bawnmore Road traffic”

David Wilson Homes are planning to build 860 extra houses on the fields next to Ashlawn Road. That's next to Rugby's water tower.

All developers planning a build of this magniture have to put in an assessment of how much extra traffic it will create. David Wilson Homes say the new development will need a 40mph limit on Ashlawn Road, traffic lights at the Barby Road junction and at Sainsbury's roundabout. They predict that traffic on Bawnmore Road will increase by a quarter as people switch from using Dunchurch Road because of congestion. Having said that they then wash their hands of the problem "the Bawnmore Road and Percival Road links are not considered to be sensitive … these links can be excluded from the assessments".

Bilton Liberal Democrat Lesley George said "I am astonished by the cold cynicism of the developers. To say there will be a problem but then to wash your hands of it is appalling".

David Wilson's plans can be seen at the Civic Centre or on the Rugby Borough Council website. The web site is not particularly user-friendly. If you use the website you will find it easier to look up the plans if you use planning application number R13/2102. Comments on David Wilson Homes' plans can be made on the website or by e-mail to planning officer Karen.mcculloch@rugby.gov.uk .

Under election law we declare that this article was promoted by Lesley George's election agent Richard Allanach of 27 Overslade Manor Drive, Rugby.
