Drop-in Community event to improve how we recycle food and green waste
Rugby Liberal Democrats will be hosting its second drop-in community event on Saturday 30 September from 10:00am until 12:30pm at the GEC Recreation Ground changing rooms on Hillmorton Road to improve how we recycle food and green waste.
Your local Liberal Democrat Councillors have once again teamed up with Master Composters John and Sandy Young. This community event is to showcase what we can do as individuals with food and green waste. Also invited is the charity, Love Food Hate Waste who aim to raise awareness of the need to reduce food waste and help us taken action.
Figures from Warwickshire County Council show that it is costing the Waste Service more per household due to the higher amount of green waste in the Rugby area now going to landfill rather than combusting waste to produce energy from the Waste Plant.
Commenting, Cllr Jerry Roodhouse, said:
"We know that Rugby Borough Council's green bin policy continues to cause confusion and frustration amongst residents. Whilst green bin charges have raised £823,000 for Rugby Council the decision taken by the Tory administration is actually costing Warwickshire County Council money with extra landfill costs of approximately £400k. Events like these are important to support the community as well as save us all money and help the planet. The event is free and open to all so please come along."
