Dunchurch Village Centre should be protected

27 Oct 2014

Developers, David Wilson Homes Ltd, are planning a major shake up of Dunchurch Village centre if their plans for 860 homes off Ashlawn Road are approved.

They plan to remove the existing traffic lights in the centre of the village and reroute traffic. Pedestrians would no longer have a "green man" phase to get across the cross roads.

All cars coming from Rugby would have to turn left before either continuing or turning right.

All cars coming from Southam would have to turn left into a new road to be carved out of the car park and then either continue to Coventry or if they wanted to go on to Rugby, turn first right and then left. The village centre would be left with virtually no car parking.

Richard Dickson, the Liberal Democrats' prospective parliamentary candidate for Kenilworth and Southam, said "David Wilson Homes are showing a complete lack of respect for Dunchurch's historic village centre. I advise everyone in the village to study planning application R13/2102 on Rugby Borough Council's website and e-mail Karen.McCulloch@rugby.gov.uk with their objection".
