Can we have a festival spirit on the first Thursday of every month?

A group of Rugby businesses are working on plans to bring Rugby to life on the first Thursday of each month. The start date for this new venture is planned to be 5 March 2015.

The idea is to create a "festival" feel on the first Thursday of each month with the town centre's businesses staying open to eight o'clock that evening. It is intended that street entertainment and street food will add to the gaiety of the evening.

The intention is not to create just another "late opening night" for shops but to persuade local services that operate from the town centre such as hairdressers, opticians, dentists and estate agents to keep their doors open as well. The organisers hope that this will draw more people into the town whose busy working lives keep them away during the normal week.

St Andrew's Church will be hosting an information meeting about 1st Thursdays on Tuesday 9 December from 6pm to 8pm.

This is the third in a series of articles Rugby Liberal Democrats website is running on the future of Rugby Town Centre this week.
