The Office of National Statistics reports that there were 560 people unemployed and claiming job seekers allowance in July 2015. That is a drop of four from June 2015 and a drop of one thousand four hundred and eighty six from the last time the Labour party were in power when in April 2010 there were 2,046 people unemployed and claiming job seekers allowance in Rugby. The number of people unemployed and claiming benefits is one of two "official" measures of unemployment. The other is based on a sample of the work force - the Labour Force Survey. Both measures show that in the UK as a whole and in Rugby in particular unemployment fell significantly during the period of coalition government.
