In or out? Warwickshire Council decides on 3 September 2015.

25 Aug 2015

We have previously reported on the proposals by Birmingham and other councils to revive the old West Midlands County Council as a West Midlands Combined Authority - see articles below.

Last month Rugby Borough Council held an inconclusive debate on the proposal - and a report on the debate is also provided below.

Now the county councillors will decide on 3 September whether they want Warwickshire to join with the other local authorities.

The paperwork that the Council will consider on 3 September states that Birmingham's proposal is so vague that it is difficult to form a view on whether or not to join. Echoing a point made by Rugby Liberal Democrats they also point out the very different economic position of Warwickshire with above average levels of employment and the metropolitan authorities who have lower than average levels of employment. The economic problems facing the two areas are different and the same treatment may not benefit both areas equally.
