Jerry pledges support for Samaritans Local Action Saves Lives campaign
J erry Roodhouse, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Rugby and Bulkington, has pledged his support to the Samaritans Local Action Saves Lives campaign to help prevent suicide in Rugby.
There are more than 6,000 suicides in the UK each year. It is the biggest killer of men under 50, and the biggest killer of young people aged 20-34. But it is not inevitable.
The Samaritans Local Action Saves Lives campaign says that if elected as an MP, you will have the ability to:
- Help save lives locally by promoting sources of emotional support
- Raise issues affecting the wellbeing of your constituents in Parliament
- Work with the local authority to make sure that everything possible is being done to put in place the early support people need before they get to crisis point: for example, community services and services for people bereaved by suicide (who are themselves at high risk).
- It is also important that if people do reach crisis point, they get the support they need: for example access to the right support in hospital after suicide and self-harm attempts.
Commenting, Jerry Roodhouse, said:
"I fully support the Samaritans Local Action Saves Lives campaign and as a Warwickshire County Council I supported the suicide strategy which ensures that the council have in place an effective suicide plan.
"Members of Parliament have huge influence and should I be elected on 8 June I will use my position to help constituents who are struggling to cope. I fully support the campaign and I hope it helps to put suicide prevention on the agenda in Rugby."
