Jerry Roodhouse presses Tories on Rugby Council’s financial performance

10 Dec 2014

At the Council meeting last night, 9 December 2014, Cllr Jerry Roodhouse (Lib Dem, Paddox) pressed the ruling conservative group on their financial performance.

First he challenged the group on the financial performance of Rugby's Works Services Unit. Half way through the financial year the Council's finance team believed the unit was £390,000 adrift from its target for the year. Cllr Leigh Hunt (Con, Clifton Newton & Churchover) assured the Council that the position would be corrected by the year end. (In the late 90s Coventry's direct labour organisation ran out of control and presented the City's taxpayers with a bill running into millions of pounds.)

Secondly he pressed the group on whether they could deliver the Council's capital programme without additional debt. Cllr Michael Stokes (Con, Admirals & Cawston) assured Cllr Roodhouse that "no more money will be borrowed this financial year".
