Warwickshire County Council has put forward proposals for changes to highways around Rugby town centre in response to COVID-19 that consider options for reallocating road space to encourage cycling and walking as well as to enable social distancing.

Any changes implemented by Warwickshire County Council would be made under Section 18 of the Traffic Management Act 2004.

Commenting, Cllr Jerry Roodhouse, Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group, said:

"Liberal Democrats are concerned at the proposals for changing the road network in Rugby by Warwickshire County Council. The Liberal Democrat group has submitted a response and believes Labour have done the same. A private meeting is to be held on Monday 8 June to discuss in detail the proposals which are being kept secret at this time. If a consultation is allowed residents will get seven days to respond. If it goes ahead it is for 18 months initially, but no assurances have been given if it goes beyond that time."
