Liberal Democrat leadership contestants debate in Warwickshire

4 Jul 2015

Yesterday evening (3 July 2015) the two contestants to be the next leader of the Liberal Democrats went head-to-head at a hustings event in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Both Tim Farron and Norman Lamb agreed that the recent electoral success of the SNP (who want to turn their back on the rest of Britain) and of the conservatives (who want to turn their back on the rest of Europe) posed a clear and present danger to the open liberal society that Liberal Democrats want to create. However both candidates were encouraged by the surge in Liberal Democrat pary membership following the general election - now up by a third in the West Midlands region.

Newly elected Cllr Marion Nash (Rokeby & Overslade), who was attending her first Liberal Democrat leadership hustings said "I came away from the debate inspired by two potential leaders who will grow the party, and be a persuasive voice for liberalism. I heard how Britain's priorities will be addressed by my future leader and I was so proud to be a Liberal Democrat".
