Rugby's Local Plan which sets out how many houses will be built in the borough and where for the next 15 years has been delayed because Rugby Borough Council has still not received evidence from Warwickshire County Council to support their recommendations for transport improvements.

At a full Rugby Borough Council meeting on Tuesday 15 November, Rugby Liberal Democrats Councillors tabled an amendment that would have seen the Local Plan consultation process extended until Spring 2017, so key infrastructure information would be available for analysis.

A majority of Conservative and Labour Councillors did not support the Liberal Democrats amendment and the Local Plan consultation period was extended a further six weeks from 30 November to 11 January only.

The two month delay will also allow the borough council to consider the government's recent White Paper on housing, and give officers more time to consider public feedback.

The revised timetable means Councillors will decide whether to submit the Local Plan to the Planning Inspectorate on 25 May 2017.

The draft Local Plan is due to be submitted for public examination in mid-June.

February 2018 is now the target date to adopt the Rugby Local Plan.
