It's National Voter Registration Day and young people in particular are being encouraged to register and ensure they can vote in the General Election as well as local elections this May.

Organised by 'Bite The Ballot' today will be a push for youth groups, schools and families to get their names on the electrol register. Rugby's Lib Dem Council Group Leader Jerry Roodhouse said, "Evidence shows if you vote when you first become eligible you're then more likely to keep on voting for the rest of your life."

Eastland's Cllr. Dale Keeling who was re-elected last year said, "It is really important that young people understand that when they register to vote it enables them to have their say on important issues that affect many aspects of their life,"
