Happy New Year from the Rugby Lib Dems!

A message from the new Chair of the Rugby, Nuneaton & North Warwickshire Party Isabelle McKenzie,   I want to give a huge thank you to the outgoing Chair, Neil Sandison, who has lead the party so admirably.

As we move from 2024 into 2025, Rugby Liberal Democrats can look back on lots of successes and the challenges of 2025. In May 2024 the local elections saw us hold onto 10 seats at Rugby Borough Council and then agree a supply and confidence agreement with a minority Labour administration.  This agreement has brought real political influence and is involving us in the running of the Council. It has been eye-opening and we can see that there is much to do. Our impact has been felt on such items as the opening times of car parks and new parking machines, speeding up on town centre regeneration work alongside the development of an economic strategy, on the Local Plan we are pushing for action on climate change and the infrastructure, (the plan sets out where new businesses and houses will go); we are affecting real and positive change for our council.

On a national level, we made huge strides with a record number of MP elected with Manuela Perteghella elected in Stratford contact . https://members.parliament.uk/member/5122/contact

On health we continue to press for extra services at St Cross our rallying cry is “Rugby Needs A Fair Deal”

In 2025 we may see further changes to the local picture. We expect Warwickshire County Council to put a letter in to government in January requesting that WCC and the 6 district councils are amalgamated into a new unitary authority. We face further uncertainty over the May elections due to the potential reorganisation which could se them cancelled. This potential delay to the 2025 election in favour of a “shadow election” in 2026 to the unitary body followed by all out elections (i.e. every seat) 2 years later. We will keep you posted on what happens.
