Oakfield Recreation Ground – write in by 11 June say Co-op protesters

2 Jun 2015

About a hundred people turned up to last night's meeting organised by Save Oakfield.

The principal message of the meeting was to write in to Rugby Borough Council's planners by 11 June. The easiest way to do this is to email Richard.redford@rugby.gov.uk . For your comment to be considered you have to add your name and address to the e-mail.

Save Oakfield Rec campaigners Richard Joy and Mick O'Meara spent about two hours taking those present through a detailed analysis of why they believe the Co-operative's planning application fails to meet Rugby's current planning rules. To summarise their very detailed case the New Bilton area already fails to meet the Council's standards for leisure, recreation and green space and if Oakfield Rec is taken away there is no alternative provision. There is a lot more on the Save Oakfield facebook page.

Anyone who is thinking of commenting on the Co-op's application does not need to reproduce the entire technical case put forward by Save Oakfield. To take a hypothetical example if you had a heart condition and lived in Charles Street all you might wish to do is to point out that the Co-op's proposal that you should walk down to Burnside for recreation would not be possible for you. A couple of sentences in your e-mail would be all that was necessary.

Speaking after the meeting Cllr Jerry Roodhouse confirmed his opposition to the scheme. Cllr Roodhouse was speaking in a personal capacity.
