Playground Vandalised

18 Sep 2014

The Rokeby Play Area on Southbrook Road has been in need of refurbishment for some years. A few weeks ago the play equipment there was vandalised when stolen bolt croppers were used to cut through support chains for swings and the zip wire seat. The play area is used by children from a wide area, not just Rokeby. When Lib Dem Councillor Bill Lewis went to look at the damage he met a family who had crossed over Dunchurch Road to play there. The children were very upset and the little boy said "Don't they care about little children being able to play?"

The Council has promised to repair the damage but the whole site needs to be brought up to date and made more secure. For over four years the Lib Dem Councillors who represent Rokeby and the children of Rokeby have been urging and have petitioned the Borough Council to upgrade the Rokeby Play Area. The children of the area deserve a better playground now and not to have to compete for funds from payments made by the developers of sites yet to be approved. We hope we don't have to rely on future housing developments in order to get our existing play facilities upgraded.
