Recycling education fund needed – Rugby Lib Dems
At a Rugby Borough Council meeting held on 16 March 2021, Liberal Democrats Councillors called on the Conservative administration to invest in greater education and support to help residents with recycling and reduce waste.

Furthermore, incineration will become more carbon-intensive and contribute to more air pollution than landfill by 2035, according to a new report by Eunomia Research and Consulting, commissioned by ClientEarth.
Liberal Democrats called for an education and innovation fund to be established based on 10% of the surplus income achieved from any future recycling income.
Unfortunately, the proposals failed to get support from both Conservative and Labour Councillors.
Commenting, Councillor Neil Sandison (Eastlands), said:
"Significant emissions are generated by burning waste in incinerators and currently 90% of Rugby's residual waste goes to incineration.
"The leadership of Rugby Borough Council has failed on repeated occasions to establish a rolling fund or deliver and implement any substantive change.
"Recycling can be confusing, and we have to help our residents to not contaminate our recycling bins with non-recyclable waste or put recyclable items in the residual waste bin. We can and must do better."
