At a full Rugby Borough Council meeting, on Tuesday 20 September 2016 Councillors signed off the accounts for 2015/16. Recently elected Rugby Liberal Democrats Councillor for Paddox Ward Tim Douglas said in the Chamber:

" Having read thoroughly the Audit Findings, and as outlined on Page 22, it is clear to me, as a new Councillor, that Rugby Council has great financial pressures and faces difficult times ahead in the medium term.

"From the description on Page 4 in the Statement of Accounts which describes the Borough as one of the fastest growing in England with further growth expected, does the Leader agree with me that:

"Firstly, we should look at doing a greater audit of the voluntary sector in the Borough?

"Secondly, we have a duty to maximise the local talent and imagination in the area to ensure that the Council and its strategy reflects what we've got and not what we haven't or don't need.

"Here I note on Page 12 of the Statement of Accounts the lower than anticipated income from the Rainsbrook Crematorium of £120,000.

"And finally, that we should strengthen and build partnerships that are geared more around networks of local enterprise to fulfil local need in Rugby."
