Rugby Borough Council decides: Tuesday 9 December 2014
8 Dec 2014
Rugby Borough Council is being asked to decide five things at its meeting this Tuesday:
- 1. Whether or not to adopt the proposal by Cllr Neil Sandison (Lib Dem, Eastlands) for Green Rangers - see http://rugbylibdems.org.uk/en/article/2014/973741/rugby-needs-green-rangers-says-cllr-neil-sandison .
- 2. To agree to be the lead bidder on behalf of Rugby, Warwick, Nuneaton and a charity called 'Doorway' for government funds to provide housing and support for vulnerable young people.
- 3. To agree changes to the Council Tax rebate scheme. (The Council had been hoping to piggy-back off the new Universal Credit. However the minister responsible for Universal Credit, Iain Duncan-Smith (Con, Chingford and Wood Green) has been much slower rolling out this scheme than planned). Instead the cabinet are proposing several changes to their existing scheme such as reducing the maximum level of savings anyone can have before being considered for the scheme from £16,000 to £10,000.
- 4. In July 2014 the Council had been asked to consider longer opening hours at the recycling centre at Hunters Lane. Now the cabinet are asking the Council permission to drop the matter whilst the county council does its own review.
- 5. To change Bilton ward's polling stations to provide less disruption to primary school education on election days.
Under a law introduced by Labour in 2000 many of the critical decisions made by Rugby are no longer made by full Council but just by the cabinet - see http://rugbylibdems.org.uk/en/article/2014/974060/rugby-cabinet-or-council .
