Rugby Borough Council – prepare for 12,400 more houses
In its draft local plan - see http://rugbylibdems.org.uk/rugby-local-plan - Rugby Borough Council are paving the way for 12,400 houses.
Of these houses 9,600 are proposed to meet local needs and a further 2,800 to pick up the shortfall in Coventry City Council's plans - see http://rugby.lib.dm/a910sR .
Where are all these houses going to go?
Planning permission has already been given for extra houses in Cawston, Dunchurch, Ridgeway Farm and at Coton House.
There are two large housing developments under way on the Radio Station Site and the Rugby Gateway site.
The new sites proposed (and there are many) are:
A site on the edge of Coventry - Walsgrave Hill Farm - this needs a new junction on the A46.
The fields around Coton House (as well as the existing development).
Almost all the land between Rugby and Newton-upon-Dunsmore - to be called Coton Park East.
A site called South West Rugby - almost all the land between Coventry Road in Dunchurch out to Cawston (or to look at it another way almost all the land between Alwyn Road in Bilton and the disused railway line). This area includes almost all the land between Montague Road in Bilton and Rugby Road in Dunchurch (but not Cock Robin Wood).
Ashlawn Fields.
Binley Woods, Brinklow, Long Lawford, Ryton on Dunsmore, Stretton on Dunsmore, Wolston and Wolvey are being asked to take 100 houses each. It is proposed to remove some Green Belt protection from land in Long Lawford - see http://rugby.lib.dm/a010W3 .
Maps showing the areas it is proposed should be zoned for housing can be found in the Council's document - go to https://www.rugby.gov.uk/meetings/meeting/635/council and download the background papers.
