Rugby Borough Council’s Cabinet Meeting 5 January 2015

31 Dec 2014

We have previously described how Labour prime minister Tony Blair created two classes of councillors. Those who make strategic decisions and those who should be representing their wards - see http://rugby.lib.dm/a0Rfg .

This means that many of the most important decisions taken by local authorities are taken by a cabinet of councillors rather than the full Council. In Rugby the ruling tory group has now decided to take all the cabinet positions.

Rugby's cabinet next meets on 5 January 2015 when it is being asked to make eight key decisions.

1. Are the Tories' plans to bring a Council Tax proposal to full Council on Tuesday 24 February 2015 on track - see http://rugby.lib.dm/a9RH2 .

2. Should the Council spend over one million pounds on the 2015 Rugby World Cup - see http://rugby.lib.dm/a6RH1.

3. How to deal with Warwickshire County Council's cutbacks in support for vulnerable tenants.

4. Whether or not to propose a 7% rent rise? See http://rugby.lib.dm/a8RH0 .

5. To agree proposed charity grants for next year.

6. To agree Rugby Borough Council's Statement of Community Involvement 2014 - a bit late surely?

7. To agree the timetable to produce the next local plan - a paper which takes no account of the failure to bring a housing needs assessment to the December 2014 meeting of the Council - see http://rugby.lib.dm/a3Rjp .

8. To agree that Rugby's green spaces will be protected by appointing consultants Nortoft to look at the matter.
