Rugby Lib Dem Councillors demand more openness and detail regarding Local Plan

19 Jul 2016

Rugby Liberal Democrat Councillors are insisting on further details being made available to the public as Rugby Borough Council moves towards consultation on Rugby's Local Plan for future development and land use.

At the moment Councillors are being asked to vote on a Local Plan with yawning gaps in important information, such as the environmental impact and a sustainable traffic infrastructure.

Commenting, Rugby Lib Dems Group Leader Cllr Jerry Roodhouse, said:

"Rugby Lib Dem Councillors are very concerned that all matters will be delegated to Council Officers, with Councillors only able to suggest minor changes.

"The Rugby Lib Dem Group on Rugby Borough Council believe this is unacceptable."

Constituency Chair of Rugby Lib Dems local party, Cllr Neil Sandison, added:

"The Local Plan will lay out the vision for borough wide planning across Rugby for the next 15 years, up until 2031. It has huge implications for local housing, employment and the environment.

"Rugby Lib Dems believe that the public have a right to know more about what is going on and have their concerns recognised as this plan moves forward. Councillors should make informed decisions based on all the facts, not just some of them."

The plan is being recommended for approval for public consultation on Tuesday 19th July 2016. If approved the public consultation will commence in September.
