Liberal Democrat Councilor's are concerned about the potential planning applications that are coming forward for pre-application consultation with little regard for Rugby Town Centre.

The local plan prior to adoption in 2019 had the highest level of responses (3,000 comments ) and supported a reduced mixed use town Centre with an identified prime retail area focused on North Street and Evreux Way .

Cllr Neil Sandison (Eastlands) Spokesperson on Planning and Development matters said:

"The danger is that we are not seeing schemes that are offering a high-quality development and failing to deliver on the transport and pedestrian needs along with it seems to us that there is no joined up thinking, we have seen that happen already with McDonald's."

We have called upon called upon the Leader of the Councillor Sebastian Lowe and Councillor Ian Picker, Portflio Holder for Growth & Economy, to initiate a review to ensure that we join things up and build a high quality town centre .
