Sad News – Charles Kennedy dead

2 Jun 2015

Former Liberal Democrat Party leader Charles Kennedy has died at his home in Scotland aged 55, his family has said.

In a statement, his family said they felt an "enormous sense of shock" and paid tribute to "a fine man, a talented politician, and a loving father".

Charles Kennedy led the Liberal Democrat party from 1999 to 2006 taking the Liberal Democrats through two general elections, during which time they increased their seats in the House of Commons from 46 to 62.

Amongst the wider public he will probably be most remembered for the principled stand he took against the Labour government's decision to invade Iraq.
