Tory gamble on our children’s future – “We will make local authorities running schools a thing of the past” says Osborne.

26 Nov 2015

One hundred and forty five years ago a Liberal government under Gladstone gave local authorities a responsibility to provide schools in their area. This set the framework for the universal provision of education for our nation's children.

Yesterday (25 November 2015) in a throw-away line in the Autumn Financial Statement tory Chancellor George Osborne said all this was to come to an end. "We will make local authorities running schools a thing of the past" he said.

This would appear to be a leap into the unknown with our children's future.
