Town Council?

12 Mar 2025

What is a Town Council? Should the Rugby urban area have a town Council?

The new Government White Paper gives us a clear direction of travel regarding local government. Warwickshire has expressed an interest in creating a single Unitary Council thus abolishing the County Council and Rugby Borough Council along with all the other District Councils, creating one single Council. Others are planning to split Warwickshire whatever happens change is coming.

The majority of Rugby Borough has a Parish Council the urban area of Rugby does not, and the threat is that Rugby town could have decisions made about its future elsewhere with little or no regard for its heritage and culture or sense of place.

Could a Town Council be a good thing? It can act to lobby and facilitate for our town be  a voice at the table for Rugby and deliver for our community along with promoting our town. Town councils play a vital role in supporting the community and developing stronger local partnerships with the NHS and the voluntary sector. In Warwickshire most of the larger towns already have Town Councils Rugby does not. We give some information below
